My Wanderlust Music Playlist

Music has always been an integral part of my life, creativity, emotions, and desires in this world. A good song can transport me to a feeling, a moment, a person, or even a physical place. Music to me is magical and since at the moment I am not traveling internationally, I have been jamming to my Wanderlust playlist constantly. These are some of the songs that I have added to mine and I hope you enjoy! Please leave a comment below and let me know what is on your wanderlust playlist!

I was Born- Hanson
“I was born to do something no one’s ever done, no one’s ever done before. I was born to go somewhere, no one’s ever gone, no one’s ever gone before”

This song is special to me because since I was 12 years old Hanson has been my favorite band. When I first heard this song I got chills instantly! I was excited because my favorite band finally created a song that described how I feel and what my passions are.

Home-Passenger
“They say home is where the heart is , but my heart is wild and free.  So am I homeless or just heartless, did I start this, did it start me”

You know those songs that reach the innermost parts of your soul, muddle things up in there, and then leave you weak at the end of it? This song does that for me.

Suit and Tie-Judah and the Lion
“I ain’t trading my youth for no suit and jacket. I ain’t giving my freedom for your money and status. So don’t say I’m getting older, cause I’ll say it when I do”

I was in love with this song the moment I first heard it. My entire life I have struggled with the normal 9 to 5 lifestyle and always knew somewhere out there that I am meant to do something outside of that. When I heard these lyrics all I could think was “yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas” the whole time I was listening to it. We graduate school and then rush off to jobs just to fill our 401K’s, but for what? Money? Status? I can’t handle that. I am here on this earth to live life, learn from others, and make a difference in peoples lives– not sit in an office and type on the computer all day. This song is my mantra!

Young As The Morning, Old as The Sea- Passenger
“I wanna lay by a lake in norway. I wanna walk through swedish fields of green. I wanna see the forests of finland. I wanna sail on a boat on the baltic sea. I wanna feel a russian winter. I wanna go to my polish grandmothers home. I wanna see hungarian lanterns. I wanna walk on a road that leads to rome”

I love Passenger – everything they write and sing is gold. I love these lyrics and they do such a great job of physically transporting me to the locations they talk about. When I listen to this song I want to hop on a plane right now and get my butt to Europe.

Home – Skinny Days
“Don’t you ever wanna run away. Buy a ticket going out of here, leave our worries in a ditch somewhere.”

These first lyrics literally describe how my wanderlust takes over me on a daily — no, hourly basis. My wanderlust is so bad that I daily look up tickets to see if there is anything that my bank account can handle. For those of you that live with the wanderlust bug inside of them, you know exactly the feeling I am talking about. The need to leave it all behind and just run to somewhere new, somewhere unknown, somewhere where everything is different and you are anonymous. These lyrics are all of those feelings wrapped up in two sentences.

Hunter – Galantis
“We’ve been on this road, to a place that one day we’ll know. Adventure to the other side, searching high and low for the treasure deep in your soul. The fortune teller’s always right”

I listen to this song on a daily basis. One, because it makes me feel like a bad ass woman. And two, because it reminds me that we are responsible for where our adventure takes us. Buy that place ticket, hike that mountain alone, do what your heart desires and fulfill your dreams- at least that’s what I think when I hear the song 🙂

Road Less Traveled- Lauren Alaina
“Wear out your boots and kick up the gravel. Don’t be afraid, take the road less traveled on. Take the road less traveled on. Don’t follow anyone, march to the rhythm of a different drum. Why do we analyze, break out, and criticize the crazy ones?”

I added this song to my wanderlust playlist for a couple reasons. First, the lyrics pretty much tell you to get off your butt and go somewhere, but to make sure you go somewhere new and off the beaten path. Two, this is a great song for women to listen to. This song speaks lengths about being your own person and not following what other people do. I’m a strong believer in this and I think we need to teach our young females in this world this as soon as they can learn! Be yourself, follow your own beat, don’t listen to what society tells you what you have to be or do in your life, just be you! 🙂

Follow the Sun -Xavier Rudd
“When you feel life coming down on you, like a heavy weight. When you feel this crazy society, adding to the strain, take a stroll to the nearest waters and remember your place.”

This song reminds me of the simplicity in life when on the road. The day begins with the sunrise and ends with the sunset. You are surrounded by fresh air, sun beaming down on you, and the most important thing that you have to focus on is being happy. The lyric above is my favorite from the song because it describes exactly how society makes me feel sometimes and my cure is always to run to the water and remind myself how big everything is.

Every Little Thing – Peter Doran
“Every little thing, you think that you need. Every little thing that’s just feeding your greed, oh I bet that you’d be fine without it.”

This song is on my wanderlust playlist not because it talks about travel, but because it reminds me of the type of life I have gone away from. After coming back from traveling the world with only a weeks worth of clothing on my back, I have become a minimalist and do what I can in every way to live my life accordingly. I have rid my life of materialistic possessions that are unnecessary for every day life, and instead have put my hard earned funds towards experiences and seeing the world. This song reminds me of that and what I learned from traveling.

These are some of my favorite wanderlust songs… what are some of yours?! Comment below and share what it is and why!!! I’d love to add more to my list!!
